MIRI: Entreprenuers in Sarawak, particularly the Bumiputeras, should be more committed, determined and dare to venture into the world of businesses and industries.

However, they must not be solely dependent on expos, trade sales and exhibitions, and disappear when there are no such events.

Instead, they should strive to improve their products to gain confidence and trust from clients for long-term business, advised Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang.

“This is taking into view their capabilities to produce quality products such as ‘kek lapis Sarawak’, traditional medication, fish pellets and many more,” he told reporters here this weekend.

Ahmad Lai said the government had taken all initiatives and provided assistance in numerous forms to assist Bumiputera entrepreneurs to develop and expand their businesses as well as to promote their products within and outside of the country.

Earlier, Ahmad Lai officiated the ‘Expo Sales and Exhibition’ at the Miri Indoor Stadium car park, representing the Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Development Assistant Minister and Planning and Resource Assistant Minister Datuk Naroden Majais.

The two-day event was organised by the Miri Divisional Entrepreneur Development Council (MPUB), in collaboration with Miri MARA, Miri FAMA, Miri DUBS, Miri Agriculture Department and Miri City Council, in conjunction with the 2012 state level Maulidur Rasul.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Lai fully supported the suggestion by the Parliament Deputy Speaker and Santubong MP Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar to consider extending the date of application for the ‘1Malaysia People Assistance’ (BR1M), especially for Sarawak.

“This will not deprive those who are eligible, in particular those in the remote areas of the state,” he asserted.

According to him, there were still many people who deserved the assistance but had yet to apply for it, because they were unaware of it.

Ahmad Lai was asked for his comments on the recent statement by Wan Junaidi, requesting the government to extend the date line to submit the applications for the BR1M on February 10.

Ahmad Lai was accompanied by Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat, Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis and his deputy, Abdul Aziz Mohamad Yusuf.
